Olano Makhubela to perform the functions of FSCA Commissioner
The Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni has appointed Mr Olano Makhubela to perform the functions of the Commissioner of the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) for a period of three months, effective from 6 November 2020 to 5 February 2021.
Mr Makhubela is currently the Divisional Executive for Retirement Funds Supervi-sion at the FSCA and will continue with these responsibilities.
Mr Olano Makhubela has been a member of the TMC since its inception on 1 April 2018, and joined the precursor of the FSCA, the Financial Services Board (FSB), as Deputy Registrar of Pension Funds on 1 October 2017. He was previously employed by the National Treasury from 2000 to 2017, serving as a Chief Director for Financial Investments and Savings, which was responsible for the retirement reform policy process. He holds the BCom (Law), Honours in Economics, LLB and MSc in Development Economics degrees.
Marius du Toit and Jurgen Boyd set to retire
We pass on a fond farewell to Marius du Toit, the Divisional Executive for Specialist Support and Jurgen Boyd, the Divisional Executive for Market Integrity Supervision who are set to retire after many years of service at the FSCA.
Both Jurgen and Marius are valued members of the FSCA’s executive team and have served the regulator with passion and excellence and executing on their mandate effectively.
They have also been instrumental in our transition from the FSB to the FSCA, and for that we owe them a huge debt of gratitude.
Mr du Toit served the regulator as the Chief Actuary since he joined in May 2007, and now leads the Specialist Support division of the FSCA. Prior to this, he fulfilled roles at Sanlam and Simeka Consultants & Actuaries.
He qualified through the Institute of Actuaries in London in 1991 and is a fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA), where he has served on various committees. Mr du Toit’s departure is set for 31 December 2020.
