SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES FOR FSCA COMMISSIONER POSITION

Astrid Ludin

Astrid Ludin is the Manager: Financial Markets and Digital Innovation at DNA Economics. 

Before joining DNA Economics, Ludin co-founded the Institute for the Digital Economy in Africa (iDEA) in January 2019 and served as its director. Ludin also worked as a senior adviser at the Prudential Authority, South African Reserve Bank, from April to November 2018.

She worked on strategy and research at Strate from May 2016 to March 2018, and played a critical role in the establishment of the Innovation Lab. She was an independent consultant at DNA Economics between July 2015 and April 2016. Before that she had served as the Commissioner of the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC).

Prior to joining the CIPC, Ludin worked at FinMark Trust as Theme Champion: Policy and Consumer Financial Empowerment. Previous to her tenure at FinMark Trust, Ludin held several positions at the Department of Trade and Industry, including Deputy Director-General, Consumer and Corporate Regulation (May 2002 to April 2007).

She also spent several years at the Competition Commission, working as Divisional Manager: Compliance (June 1999 to April 2002) and Deputy Commissioner (Sept 2001 to April 2002). Ludin started out as a Programme Analyst: Stokvel Programme at Get Ahead Foundation in July 1994. She has an M.A. in International Affairs, Columbia University, New York, USA, 1992-1994; a B.A. Honours in Politics, Philosophy, Economics, York University, York, UK, 1988-1991; and a Certificate in Design Thinking, Emeritus.
